Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Opportunities Outside XOM???

I’m an experienced hire (>10 YOE) in the Upstream Exxon Company. It’s absolutely wild to me how soooo many people at XOM love to complain about their jobs/managers etc etc and yet they do nothing about it.

People here have drank sooo much koolaid that they actually believe that their career opportunities will be limited if they leave XOM, there are people who will willingly wait for YEARS for their manager to find them a gig in another city and get a company job transfer. It’s insane, these people are so talented if they looked on Indeed for once they could readily find other jobs in their desired location.

Idk maybe I’m a career hopper so I can’t relate with this idea of sticking it out ?? I just go from place to place and do what I like and I’m making sick money doing it.

Experienced hire that was with XOM for 20 years before my first (and only) NSI. Perhaps it was because of the prior experience I knew I could land another job and not put up with an inept management’s BS.

What surprised me is how after the NSI, management tried to convince me it was just a numbers game. They need me! I’m valued! Uh-huh. Mbye.

Took a pay cut, but best decision of my life to get the heck out of there. It’s been like watching a slow burning dumpster fire ever since.

Just come to this page every so often to encourage others: there’s a life outside XOM. Don’t be held hostage during the best years of your life. They’ll take every ounce of you (and then some) and unless you have a sponsor / network to protect you, it likely still won’t be enough to save you once you hit 50.

Also? You’ll be almost immediately forgotten when you’re gone. How’s that for a legacy?

There’s more to life than money. Get your experience - save as much as you can - and move on!

I agree, as mid career I feel ashamed on how some, good, productive, late-career individuals have been treated in recent years. And if you think that is not seen by new hires, you are mistaken

Some of us are close to retirement so it is in our interests to stay. If you are young get some experience and leave you are free. Leaving does not make financial sense if you only have a few more years. So even if we are stuck we will complain about the bad treatment because it Is wrong.
