Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Layoffs Coming Q1 2025

After employees with HR issues and low performing statuses have been figured out at the end of the year, F8 Malta and F9 Burlington will have headcount reduction actions taken. Current forecast is a 12-14% reduction in staff including job levels 1-4.

The lists have already been made and people are already decided on who is going to be let go. If you value your stability now is the best time to start unionizing to protect yourselves. Goodluck everyone.

Depends what site you work. Singapore employees who have clocked 10+ years actually look forward to a retrenchment exercise. The pay out is great. Many are unhappy for not making the cut.

It won’t be small targeted layoffs. It will be large and make headlines. It will give the stock a little boost once the announcement is made.

It certainly doesn't make me happy to see any layoffs, still have many friends stuck at GF. I was fortunate enough to leave on my own and find a better opportunity. What the data tells me is that even with all the US Chips Bill money companies like GF continue to struggle. This suggests poor leadership and a non-successful business plan. GF is trying to figure out what it wants to be and what will make the company money in the future. GF can't seem to penetrate the automotive world heavily because the BCD techs offered are not leading edge and Tier1 and OEM don't have confidence in GF. The RF world is fading on GF and their lunch is getting eaten by UMC and TSMC to give a couple examples. Silicon Photonics has just been an overall disaster with very little revenue in this area. GaN is another disaster having bought three flavors of GaN and none of them yet into production. The future is very dark for GF, every employee better have a plan "B" for the future unless you plan to retire once they lay you off.

Imagine thinking how educated one thinks their post is, but then it reads so stupid, you know it’s fake.

They’d be able to do a layoff with unions too. Just would be seniority based. Unions won’t fix this

Packages are definitely becoming lighter, that is a fact. No cooling period, just 2 weeks for every week worked if you sign a release. Insurance until the end of the month. Loss of all RSU’s and no ‘bonus’.

Forward looking loading is weaker than expected. With the Fed $ in the wings, the layoffs will be stealthy executed, with a few a week, over a few months.

With the package shrinking, unionization would hold leadership accountable for running a poor business.

Imagine a person creating a fake-news thread, and then that same person posting the first comment.

Yeah, that happened here.
