Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Tech :- Charles Schwab Adopts PostgreSQL (With VMware Tanzu)?

From NO-SQL , Back to SQL.

  • does not mean we will remain the same?

Problem is not tech, problem is

  • Same team doing same work on same system for decade
  • they needed to be slowly replaced or moved out Schwab
  • Do not allow any old team member to work on new system.
  • Because old team/ member have vested interest in protecting old system.
  • Once they are out slowly new team have to learn system
  • and System will build which will integrate and Schwab can move away from legacy
  • Start using AI to break dependency on old team

Other wise

  • This will be another lost decade and money

Don't let this distract you from the fact that Schwab is run by id--ts like Simon, Tim, and Dennis.

  • > Assign the project to service company
  • > They work very hard to make project
  • > at the end up making PANCAKE
  • > Pancake would a scrap.
  • > Now we will need same company to maintain pancake they created
  • > Hurray one more tech gone to drain, this will team claim they have implemented this project even it failed.

Our TechLead is Flip Flopping between SQL and NOSQL for a new API we are building. I don't get invited to architecture meetings but this is crazy. Every two weeks they are changing the DB. It seems like they don't know what they are doing.

@1asu+1upT4SXv This is how I feel about Oracle. Worst product ever.

Our team was forced on to SQL Server and it is terrible. The sooner it is thrown in the garbage the better.

First it was Oracle. Then SQL Server. Then Mongo and now Postgres. Every decision was driven preliminarily by cost. Tech capabilities (whether real or overhyped) are irrelevant.

Decisions at Schwab aren’t made because of strategy. They’re made solely because of money.
