Neither CLECs nor ILECs are always more profitable than the other, but there are some factors that can affect their profitability:

Competition
As more CLECs enter the market, competition increases, which can lead to lower profit margins for all players.

Pricing
CLECs are generally more competitive with their pricing than ILECs, but this can reduce profit margins.

Market selection
CLECs often focus on smaller, more profitable areas, such as larger cities and metropolitan areas.

Regulations
ILECs are subject to more stringent regulations due to their size and market dominance.

Innovation
CLECs are often more innovative and adapt quickly to new technologies and market demands.

Cost reduction
ILECs may need to focus more on cost reduction and enhanced technology features to maintain long-term profitability.

When choosing between an ILEC and a CLEC, it's important to consider your business's specific needs, the geographical coverage required, and the value each provider offers.

Getting rid of CLEC to keep ILEC ? Its obvious the commenters on here are not in the communication business.

"CLEC is carrying a ton of ILEC traffic" is one of the most brain dead takes I've ever read on this site about WIN.

CLEC by definition operates on other people's lines. If there's a kernel of truth here, it's that WIN isn't a Tier 1 backbone so ILEC needs to buy transit from other providers. But that doesn't translate at all into WIN CLEC carrying WIN ILEC traffic.

Using Frontier price for houses passed, Kinetic could be worth $3.8b. Could be VZ, AT&T, Brightspeed, Comcast, Charter, Altice, another TMOB JV, someone new, etc. Any number of suitors could take Kinetic if the price is right.

Uniti has a CLEC Enterprise unit in markets where Uniti owns metro fiber which is mostly the old Southern Light footprint. Will be interesting to hear the plan for blending Uniti and Windstream Enterprise units.

Uniti and Windstream both have Wholesale units building and selling dark fiber. And Windstream sells additional products. Merger documents on Uniti website showed Uniti has small footprint for wave circuits.

Along with CLEC they are working to sell off Broadview and OfficeSuite.

Unity will sell off CLEC- CLEC is a boat anchor- not sure who thinks CLEC carries the ILEC traffic??? ILEC has the broadband government money. Unity will hold onto ILEC

Doubtful. CLEC is carrying a ton of traffic for the ILEC. And I don't see bringing in Fortune 100 companies as customers. Keeping ILEC allows them to siphon money from the government for broadband buildouts.

Uniti wants to sell off the Windstream CLEC side before the acquisition is finalized and keep ILEC.

Frontier has 2,200,000 fiber subscribers according to Verizon‘s information page about the deal. Kinetic has 418,000 fiber subscribers. https://www.verizon.com/about/news/verizon-to-acquire-frontier

So frontier is sold for 20 billion, how much would Windstream possibly be worth? Are they equal to frontier in size? AT&T would make sense especially to keep up with Verizon.

and AT&T has the Gigapower JV with BlackRock to expanded their footprint.

TMOB is pursuing Joint Ventures. They have announced JVs that are acquiring Lumos and Metronet.

When T-Mobile bought Sprint, they got all the OSP fiber... And sold it off.

AT&T? Doubtful.

But think about companies we do business with. Companies that are splitting build out costs on new fiber.

And there's the deals that Tony couldn't seal when he was CEO. Zayo and several others might like a combined Windstream / Uniti.

Could this open the door for A&T or T-Mobile to purchase WS, so they stay competitive with Verizon? That would not happen until after the Uniti merger but we all know it is not going to stop there, one way or another.

Yay for bankruptcy. Clear debt and then sell
For profit. How can I, as a normal person, take a loan to buy a car and then claim bankruptcy on that loan only to keep the car and sell it afterward which will net me a profit? This is how corporate America fuxking works.

2008: Citizens Communications changed its name to Frontier Communications Corporation and its stock symbol on the New York Stock Exchange changed from "CZN" to "FTR"

2010: Frontier Communications acquired Verizon wireline assets in three states

2020: Frontier filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to declining revenues and customer numbers
2021: Frontier emerged from bankruptcy and announced plans to invest in fiber
