Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Layoffs in last quarter of 2024?

Was there still cuts to be carried out before year end? I seem to recall they still have an allotment for restructuring this year in the financials. There was insinuation of consolidation in the last earnings release, ie 110 plants formerly served us well/ I believe it was a command strip that was used as an example of touching 5 plants, too many. What is coming down the pipe? Is BB about to swing the axe? Are we not already lean enough?

Peter G once asked all employees not to do non value tasks. However it seems the mgt now are going back to the old ways to review dash boards , create many A3s etc. Just look at the amount of reports that TEBG is asking. GOSH!

October is traditionally the big month for announcing layoffs, the bigwigs have been busy doing their plant visits and after the employee opinion survey has concluded, there will be a few big decisions to make as to where the work goes.

Sounds like the bigs reductions now are from procurement and plant engineering/facilities. Will look good on the operating expenses in short term. Good strategy from BB.

CBRE and JLL are staffing up in the MN market. Job postings seek sourcing experience in industrial manufacturing environments. Job descriptions smell an awful lot like 3M roles. This may drive a short term gain, but ultimately reduced performance and higher costs in the long run. Same old recipe, land the role with promise of future cost reductions, then defend against the inevitable increases using an endless number of levers that no 3M sourcing leader has the capability or desire to defend against. CBRE and JLL will generate reports and create slideshows demonstrating false gains that 3M sourcing and executive leaders will use to further promote themselves. It’s another form of the Kearney and McKinsey model, delaying the inevitable slide towards defects and failure by any true measure of performance.

Isn't November 1st the day CBRE takes over some of the plant engineering responsibilities? If so, is that the reduction being talked about?
