Ok I am NRE a proud of it. When I paid my house of that was the first freedom because if I got piped I could still make it on my wife's salary. I was never ranked below good before 50 and then suddenly things changed. I am now cruising by alternating good and NI but that is OK. HR has confirmed that In cannot be piped in the coming three years. My new supervisor was not aware of my age because they were so caught up in their career advancement. The new sup is a high flier that is managing many projects at once because they think it is the way to stardom. The sup has threatened to fire me and walk me out the door because of the new project being delayed. The project is delayed not because of my work but by others. The supervisor does not want the to be the bad guy and to confront the people slowing down the project and wants me to do it. I told the sup it was not my job to interfere and pester them. The supervisor told me I was for my career advancement and I needed to delegate work. I just smile when they say these things and laugh. The threats will not work on me as I could just show up and fly through. I could also sc--w the sup by sabotaging their project and providing bad feedback for them. It is funny to see how they think threats are going to scare me as if I am a young person with little kids and lots of debt. If they drop me to NSI it will only be for a year because if they do it again and again it looks like the are targeting older persons. This could be a case of age discrimination for exxon. I know a retiree that went though the same thing. He sort of mailed it in for the last years. He was put on NRE pip called PCP and passed it. After 55 he tried to do more but was denied the important work. He lasted a few more years and was piped at 59. He decided to piptire at 59. When he was asked why he was leaving he said because he was piped. The supervisor told everyone he chose to retire. I remember when you could work as long as you wanted at exxon people would not leave until at least 65 even 70 was not uncommon. It changed years ago and 60 to 65 was the target. A few years ago it was 60 but now it is as soon as you get RE. Now 55 to 60 is the target. Anyway if you are like me please relax, take it easy and enjoy you last few years at exxon. You will find opportunities and hi profile work being taken from you in the end. It is the new way and playbook at exxon. Remember the supervisors have their pip quota and I think that is their number one job. When I leave I will thank exxon for the retirement and more importantly the medical. I will have no hard feelings and will leave. Be careful as exxon may start targeting employees under 50. I have seen some piped as young as 30 to 40 years old. Good luck to you all. My target exit anytime after 57 through 60 years old.

Just turned RE and punching out at the end of the year. Feels good!
NRE is NRE regardless of age. They won't can you either way. Start planning NOW what you will do when the last day comes, don't wing it. You'll be thrilled to execute a well thought out plan, e.g. take one year off hitting some bucket list items while applying for small business loans to fill my days in x-x business as my own boss. Good Luck
Buddy, once you’re past 55 your are no longer NRE and can be PIP’d out. NRE only protects you until you reach 55.
