About 10 months after a local chemical plant announced its plans to close, it sent out a warn notice for layoff of its remaining employees.
Invista, a chemical plant, announced this past October that it would discontinue production at its site in Orange on June 30. The site, located at 3055 Farm to Market Road 1006 is set to permanently close Dec. 31.
The original estimation was that the production of hexamethylene diamine, an organic compound used for nylon and other textiles, would cease at the end of June with 75 employee layoffs from June 18 to 30, according to an Aug. 7 warn letter from Invista.
“We appreciate the diligent and innovative work of employees at the Orange site over the years,” Invista President and CEO Francis Murphy said in an October 2023 release. “Unfortunately, lower than anticipated growth and an increase in global supply led to this difficult decision.”
However, on June 4, Invista announced that 30 employees were needed to finish production and would be laid off between Sept. 16 and 30. Another estimated 33 employees would be needed to idle equipment and would be permanently laid off between Dec. 19 and 31, the letter states.
Now, the August letter states that the facility will keep some employees through the end of 2025 to shut it down.
