Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

How are you faring with job search?

I’ve been trying for six months, no luck. I’m beginning to be afraid I’ll never be able to leave this place, or that I’ll be jobless if they let me go. I’m running out of ideas.

"Shovel toxic positivity garbage on LinkedIn."

This is so true. Take a look at SB's insipid posts about nothing, and the nitwits that respond to him. LI is a joke. It is a pile of fiction.

Shovel toxic positivity garbage on LinkedIn.

OP - if you're in tech and your experience consists of working on the controllers with a GNU C code base from the mid 90's - think about switching to another career. Too much has changed as you noticed.

If you were good at your job, the skills you've developed will serve you well in the job market. The dirty secret out there is that no one is taught to think any more. The diagnostic and analytical skills you've used will be a rarity to any luck employer. Good luck out there!

6 months, no luck for me. Age discrimination.

I think it depends what department you're in and maybe your age group. I was over 50 and it took me 4.5 months. I thought I had no transferable skils. But Xerox teaches you a lot of desirable soft skills. The name recognition doesn't hurt either. Try to focus on what company you'd like to work for. Or maybe try for state/city/county work. IF you do get hit in a layoff, you'll be eligible for unemployment as soon as severance runs out - which I think they pay in lump sum now instead of keeping you active. You'll find something. But it really helps to target what you send out to companies you really want to work for. And sometimes companies don't want to pay to post on LI or Indeed and they don't want to shell out for recruiters if they don't have to. Often they post on their own websites first before they're willing to pay. But the very best thing you can do is go on LI and connect with every Xerox person you've ever worked with. There is a huge network of ex-Xeroids out there and many of them genuinely will help if they can. Sometimes their current companies pay out finder's fees so it's a win-win. But not just ex-X's - ask anyone and everyone if they know of anything. Comment on other peoples' posts.
