Especially in US. Too many people, organizing and attending meaningless meetings day in and day out , Projects being created for the sake of showing that they are busy only to be quietly closed down later. Too many supervisors/managers su-king to their superiors. So many things are wrong. Why isn't anyone looking at IT as much as they scrutinize PD/Manufacturing?

Fords internal software products are complete garbage. QLSCM and FiS are complete garbage. Slow and cumbersome. I probably waste 2 hours per month just waiting for screens to load.
Finding spare parts in the crib system is terrible. I’ve seen excessive machine downtime because a part can’t be found. Search is terrible. Just like the ford internal hub search.
If JF says that brackets are a problem, then by golly that's the truth!
@1hum+1uhAMgMX - You know your IT! Best comment I've read all week. 100% accurate.
IT is being fixed, by AI and the cloud.
IT gets jerked around by business decisions that may or may not produce anything of value. Priorities get set and then reprioritized and then rereprioritized monthly. Then comes the IT internal bureaucracy that absolutely su-ks the life out of the line people. You want to fix IT? great.... first comes senior leadership: they're out. Second comes the project management cabal: cut 90% and replace them with real technical people who understand the business. Project managers are the evil that produce nothing and actually hinder progress. Third, get rid of the flavor of the month systems life cycle management processes. mainframe, client server, in-car and web apps cannot be managed the same way. Rally metrics are the most useless numbers looked at because they are massaged and manipulated to please leadership.
Red Shoe Amend and ALL his direct reports all need to go so IT can get back to doing sh*t that matters instead of the dog and pony show projects we're stuck with now.
How are no competent leadership in this company.
IT = what we do in the shadows. HR=what we do to benefit management.
@OP. Before fixing IT, leadership needs to be fixed! We are told "business" dictates the choices for selecting lousy platforms, making bad technical decisions, and NA employee attrition. We lost many good people because of layoffs, but also because managers don't listen to these people, so the knowledgeable guys prefer leaving the company than deal with the results of doing exactly the opposite of the technical recommendation.
And while some areas were cut to the bone, other areas are full of the Friends and Family doing absolutely nothing.
100% agree everyone time I speak to IT especially gdia there is a plethora of "product owners / product managers" who do or own nothing. Getting even simple information or task done by them is impossible and they almost always bail whenever it gets too tough to focus on "other priorities" so many of our projects were delayed because their teams. I honestly think they have some sugar daddy sponsoring them from the top because I really don't know what these people do to earn so much money whereas I see teams in PD doing much more with just bare bone resources.
Because no one can. IT is a monopoly, hiding behind a word called security. The moment you "fix" IT, IT will cut the items that support PD/Manufacturing, not their hidden pet projects, to affect the operations.
Who on the finance side (or anyone) knows IT well enough to have an itemized list to cut?
