Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

RTO rumors

Is there any truth to rumors that we can expect a new RTO push after layoffs are completed? I'm hearing talk about four days in the office, which is not something I want to stick around for if true. I keep hoping this is just an unfounded rumor, but I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out true.

No there will not be a RTO push. Cisco has always been a "work from anywhere". Even decades before Corona.

You think for real I will go in to the office, where I don't have extra monitors, keyboard, mouse just to take a call with my customer who sits in another country? All while I have to sit in a meeting room on and look at 4 different CLIs on my small laptop screen?

Ah yes! Let’s mandate that tens of thousands of Cisco employees dispersed all across the United States go into the 5 offices Cisco didn’t sell.

From my observations, there are two ways to look at this;

  1. They do RTO because they want to increase employee attrition and capture more cost-savings
  1. They said they want to target lower cost of living markets to save money, and many of those lower cost markets do not have existing offices

So it comes down to a math equation - do they do RTO at HQ/RTP - then everywhere else is WFH? Or do they LR folks in the high cost of living markets, hire WFH in low cost of living areas and continue that route?

I don't have a crystal ball - but based on the messaging, 2 is more likely. I haven't heard anything regarding RTO on my end. Not to say they won't surprise us, but I find it less likely.

Most work part time or two jobs so no way they can RTO

How exactly are you supposed to learn from other people if your team is distributed across the world? I would have to go into an office that's 4 hours away to be able to share an office with ONE team member. The rest of them are in different countries and states.

Offices? We don’t have no stinkin’ offices. They were all laid-off at the beginning of the fake pandemic.

This would be interesting. Cisco's whole thing is about making the office a magnet and not a mandate (lol, what a load of old sh--e). Remote work is also one of the very very few benefits here... Though I guess it's a good way to increase attrition without paying out $$$.

Omg, Tesla/EV owners will be very disappointed, in the past few years, EV cars got triple or more, chargers number didn’t increase…
