I’m really starting to question how great Cisco is. They announce layoffs the same month they send a ton of sales people to Vegas, and just blow money like layoffs weren’t even needed. I saw someone say Maroon 5 was there? Is that true?

They do this every year. Why is OP surprised? Layoffs at least once a year (two-three times a year as of late) and one great big party in Vegas. Have you just woken up to what Cisco is actually like?
This is the worst GSX so far in 20 years. Nobody knows what to sell still. It is just a rah rah rah session about Growth, Growth, Growth... Zero direction on what to sell. The free food is great and I have an Ambassador sweet at the Bellagio. We've been skipping out to go to strip clubs and shoot machine g-ns instead. I had a $350 Wagyu steak last night. We are going to play golf tomorrow at a club that is $200/person for a 18 holes. Life ain't that bad

With Jeff + Rachel out and Gary in, they have to have GSX to introduce the new team and new message. Also high-five all the new Splunk sellers at the craps table.
I initially thought cancelling would've been better optics as well, but it's been asked and answered by Gary several times. The net negative of throwing money away on the event would be worse, not to mention the hit to morale for the global sales team. Many of you seem too childish to admit it, but selling things so we can pay our bills and continue to build our products is important. If you think it's easy to grow revenue, consider working as an AE/AM/SE and help us all out.

Heard from many partners and my account SE's. People are stressed and not that enthusiastic as LR looming. Vibes are not that good compared to 3-5 yrs back.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they paid for Maroon 5 (or Adam Levine). It’s a massive waste of money.
There was someone in a previous post who claimed that it would cost them more to cancel it. Even if the contracts had a cancellation clause, there is zero chance that it would cost more than just cancelling everything. Flights could have been cancelled for credits. Hotels could have been cancelled without any issues. There wouldn’t be reimbursement for high-end restaurants, drinks, etc.
The only reason it’s still happening is because Chuckie is narcissistic and the ELT are sycophants.
If Maroon 5 was there - that was a REPEAT engagement for them GSX ...
