Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Guys, stop expecting any culture in today’s corporations

There’s no such thing anymore. Corporations are reaching their peak of becoming multinational behemoths serving no other purpose but to enrich the few. Do you seriously believe that most of them actually care if the company will exist tomorrow? Only in case it somehow prematurely kicks the bucket before they get their millions, parachutes, bonuses, and other valuables. We are not important. Results are not important - they can always be played around with for long enough to collect the cash. Products, services, clients - equally unimportant. What we have to think about is how we got ourselves to the point of being as important as, say, an office coffee machine. Forget about being diligent, hard worker, going above and beyond. It’s pointless. Collect your paycheck with minimal effort, and always look for other jobs. It’s sad, but that’s how it is.

You can't be a CEO and be capable/caring. Maybe they wear a mask to create a kind public persona? To reach executive levels you've buried a lot of bodies.

OP you are correct, however I would also like to add when you are part of a team that works closely together through long hours, production impacting events and turmoil, you form bonds and kinships with one another. People's guards come down, the lines between business and personal may blur.

Some people just love what they do for a living. It's easy to become disillusioned and not recognize the bigger picture. But we must.

I'm still convinced that company culture is a trickle down effect from the CEO to ELT, directors and downward. When employees feel motivated and there's a mutual respect in the workplace, possibilities are endless. I personally don't mind working long weeks at times if it means I can take additional time off, or I will be fiscally compensated at a later point.

Business is a two way street. If you expect people to sacrifice their time, it's imperative the business provide something in return. Sometimes just a basic acknowledgment from a manager that one is doing a great job and their talents helps.

When employees feel excluded, do not believe their work provides value, or their managers do not recognize their efforts it breeds resentment, burnout, and eventual attrition.

You can't expect everything from an employee. You also can't expect everything from a CEO. So it's important to find a delicate balance somewhere in the middle.

Please name an example of these capable and caring CEOs? Not trying to be combative -- I'm just having a hard time thinking of one.

You are correct when it comes to Cisco mess but there are many corporations that have capable and caring CEO's which is the opposite of clueless Chuckie and his management squad
