Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

It's not so easy to find a new job

I've been attempting to leave for the past ten months. I got plenty of offers in that period, but none matched my current pay. If the difference was not significant I wouldn't mind that much, but the best offer was 20 percent below what I make now. Are others having similar issues or am I just out of luck?

I got out, too. I was scared to leave, scared of the unknown. But I'm at a growing company with a great culture and leaders who aren't entitled. I have work coming out my ears but yet I'm not stressed anymore. I do miss many of the benefits, and yeah, the pension. But I think I'll live longer (not joking) because of the change in stress. Best of all, my kids can tell the difference. There's life after TIAA. We promise. Stay strong. Dig in. You can do it.

I don't understand blaming the government, since it didn't hire you and is not laying off anyone in your organization. This is purely a cut expenses and increase profit play. And TIAA is not the only one doing this.

A great example is Musk buying Twitter and then laying off the people he considers expendable for the sake of profit.

When I was with TIAA, I kept telling people that the non-profit model was not sustainable long-term. Everyone said I did'nt understand the company mission. With that being said, I always thought TIAA had some of the best employees I ever worked with. Fantastic and dedicated group.

Job market and overall economy is bad, but our current govt admin won’t admit to it and will say everything is great for votes this election year.

Job market has been awful. I was ghosted from empower, got rejected from Fidelity in the final round.

Im client facing, I've been looking for a few years. More aggressively now. Empower is less. Fidelity is less, Schwab is less. All have less pto but do have good benefits. Most are hybrid now as well. Acensus is 100% remote as is Voya. I got denied for both but aimed too high. Mobility appears better at other organizations but we are in recession layoff mode most places, so I'm skilling up with additional licenses so I can keep my pay similar to what Tiaa is/was paying. Tough times for sure, welcome to corporate America I suppose :(

I recently got out and found a job with better pay and better benefits, and they don’t treat me like a child with monitoring Salesforce activity and forcing me to come in the office. It took me a solid 7 months from start to finish to find the right job. My network was invaluable - everyone I’ve worked with in the past was very supportive and sent tons of opportunities my way - I just had to make lots of initial phone calls and tell people I was looking for the next opportunity.

Don’t give up. I found a job with better pay and equal benefits (no pension however a very nice structure that puts aside an amount equal to a pension). It took me about 6 months and much encouragement from my former co-worker network and mentors but I got out just in time before things have really started going south a few months ago. Stay strong & like another person commented, leverage your network. You’ve got this!

Always try and leverage your network. Reach out to former colleagues who went to other firms, ask what their experience has been like and see if positions maybe about to open.

Empower, Schwab, Fido, all have some spots. stay strong TIAA fam…

You will not find a job with the same level of total compensation you have at tiaa. In most areas of TIAA, people are not at over paid. The place has problems, but compensation isn’t one of them. Get over the money, move on and save your sanity.

Don’t forget the benefits PTO/pension. Even if u get the same pay, u will make less due to no pension. :(
