The Rush for solid state batteries

The entire world is racing to design a solid state battery for EV in mass production…. Samsung states 2027 full production..

Somehow 3M led the research on this in the 90s…..? Why the he-l is 3M not at the front on this now?

Blame it on top management who micromanages pretty much everything at 3M.

They take credit for any success that people at the bench have created but in the process have managed to ki-l the innovative spirit that made once made the company a mighty enterprise with world class products.

Let’s hire more development people in CBG to create a new command hook in a different color as a strategy for 3M,s future and then get to a solid state battery when we have time.

Any public co should have that as their primary goal. It isn't a strategy though - it's an outcome of the strategy

All of these comments don't reflect the facts. Really weak leadership of battery program and auto division vp at the time were reasons for this "early miss". Had nothing to do w Mac, sorry.

Q2'24 was a one time good results. Wait till the Q3 and Q4 earming calls. Sales are falling off the cliff and factories are frequently shutdown.

Give a round of applause (cough, cough) to the "leadership" of James McNerney, GE flunkee who was given the keys and tens of millions to drive 3M into the future from Desi (nice man, not a great visionary leader) in 2000.

Mighty Mack decided 3M needed more pharma plus a software division (remember High Jump software, Jimmy's first big add). Ge----l wart cream in, battery tech out. Buckley was too late to fix this gaff but did exit pharma and selling creams for private parts.

Incompetent leadership, focused on the next quarter and not the longer term!

Leadership at 3M su-ks! Too much DEI. Not hired on work ethic just if you fit the description of HR model! People based on the HR model getting jobs of leadership and no experience.

Simple.
Starting in the mid 90s, 3M adopted the GE strategy to maximize stock value as the top priority.
