Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Working from home, you cannot get away from the LR mentally.

The hardest part of the waiting for the potential axe when you work from home is you cannot get away from it mentally. I used to think the same way about work because I could always hear the pings from my MAC, or get notifications on my phone but I was happy to have the ability to respond quickly. Now it just reminds my livelihood is in jeopardy constantly and my home isn’t a comfortable place to be. I can turn off the pings but cannot remove my office from my path. Being a single income household, this is mentally draining and I just want to sleep all the time.

It only applies to the micro-layoff of 350 last week.

Don’t accept any managers 1:1 meeting - just adds additional stress that no one has the time or the energy. Put off all work until Sept 16, and see if still in directory employed.

Not accepting any manager's meetings won't save you.

Looking at the directory is updated on Sept 16th also won't tell you anything. Fran said impacted people would remain an employee until Oct 15th. The directory takes 24-48 hours to update nightly from nightly jobs run to remove users.

Managers are working this week to plan your IPF which affects your bonus. You can do nothing and then they can save your bonus money and give it to those on the team that didn't quite quit. Plus, your co-workers who have to pickup your slack will notice, and down the road when you're looking for new jobs and they see your resume for a team interview, they won't be very forgiving. I know I wasn't while at non-Cisco jobs and an old co-worker's resume came to the team for consideration.

Chuckie made a short term decision during Covid to close offices to save money and he thought it would boost WebEx sales but Zoom stole the show and is now a household name along with Microsoft teams while Cisco is six feet under

I can relate. I’m a 1income household with children and working from home right now is rough given we have 3 more weeks until we know our fate. I’m a planner so I calculated what my PTO payout will be in October plus what my abysmal bonus will be on top of what to expect with severance. That gave me some reassurances on how long I can keep the lights on and kids fed. In the current economy I’d need to pivot to another career path since mine is pretty bleak in terms of openings. I also have reached out to colleagues I trust for some morale support. We’re all feeling this impending axe and I’m deeply ashamed this is how Cisco decided to treat such loyal and hard working people. Hard to sell a company that continues to sell out his employees.

Waiting only adds to mistrust and rumors and mental health challenges that Cisco is responsible without being aware or accepting.

They want move as many folks to "low cost area", aka not U.S., to reduce the cost of employment.

Cisco closed offices to save money. They want move as many folks to "low cost area", aka not Silicon Valley, to reduce the cost of employment. What works for one or two years is not going to make it in the long run. Chuckster is working remote, that's how can stay in touch with pleads.

Go into the nearest office if you can.

Many companies have return to office policies which is good for social interaction with peers and customers but unfortunately Cisco closed most offices so no longer a choice

It is mentally draining. The the only thing one can do is to be prepared for change. I learned from my last LR by having liquidity to protect my assets and opportunities. Maybe you're not there at this moment which will add stress, but if you decide today to prepare, you will be in a better position to weather the storms. Be well and I hope you feel better.
