Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I work for 10 hours a week and so does everyone else I know

How is this company even operating?

Things move here at a dinosaur pace; projects are slow, people dont respond on slack and are OOO every other day.

Being here might be nice and relaxing but seems like I am spiraling into more and more incompetency the longer I stay

just say under leadership and youre good.

This s place is run and managed by a bunch of glad-handing id--ts who have lost the plot.

Build a car that people can't wait to buy and you will be a successful car company.

Period.

... Is slack the corporate approved business communication tool...

Slack is the comm tool that only certain teams get to use because certain teams "want it our way or we'll take our ball and go home" so Ford kisses their little tushies and tell them it'll be ok. Got to attract and retain all that talent you know.

If you work in Model E, it doesn't matter if you only work 10 hours per week. Some people work 40+ hours per week. That doesn't matter either. That organization's output has been of no value under DF leadership.

@OP. If you work, really work, 10 hours a week, you are golden. If you are including in those 10 hours the meetings and "trainings", you are not doing anything at all.

I have over 20 meetings every week, most of them to report status. Besides that, I get the last minute invites, sometimes after the meeting has actually started. Plus all the chat and emails because someone needs a technical explanation.

So working 10 hours a week is the new normal for me, because that's what is left after all the fluff, and there is no way I am working over 40 hours, at least without approved OT. I am not going to spend my own unpaid time on an ungrateful company. That ship sailed with the SRD in 2019, where the layoffs hit the most hardworker and knowledgeable employees.

I was a top achiever three out of five years and went to my LL4 and asked when I was going to be put on the next up list for LL5. He looked at me and said, you do not have enough years left in the Company to be put on the next up list and do not fit any demographic exceptions (to old, to white, to male). Be happy we gave you the top achiever scores for your raises/bonuses. I was 47. Now I only do what is needed to survive the next round of layoffs. In two years, I will be 55 and I will cash out. Ford had a highly motivated person who worked nights and weekends to make Ford succeed and throw it ways. I'm cashing out next year. F-Ford

“Take some classes and upskill. Why do people complain so much?!”

Ford paid for me to get a friggin’ PhD in the field I was working in but it didn’t help when it came time to fire people over 50.

First, most of us don't bother with the children's playground that is Slack. I personally stopped even opening it when reading all the discussions of 'favorite cereals' and people just calling each other rock stars all day for doing essentially nothing. Between email, Webex meetings, and Webex IMs, I have more than enough incoming work I have to deal with. I don't have time for scrolling through the idiocy of Slack and people posting remedial questions on how to tie their shoes.

That's why Ford wants you using slack and WebEx. They don't want email records of their sc--wed up and illegal decisions. This goes all the way back to the Explorer/Firestone disasters. In discovery emails admitting the problem was known were found.

Ford has been trying to get people to stop using email ever since. They want it discussed in meetings, but only if they aren't recorded. Which is why Ford has a "no recording" default policy.

This is the slimiest company I've ever worked for. I laugh up a lung everytime they start trumpeting "Most Ethical Company"! Of course, that's based on Bill's Green New Deal ethos, not on how they treat customers, employees, and partners.

Take some classes and upskill. Why do people complain so much?! They're either too busy or not busy enough. It ebbs and flows. Good lord, take some initiative.

“Model e is the lifeblood of Ford”
That’s rich! Model e is exactly what is draining the life blood from Ford! Ford has sacrificed its entire future for the fantasy of EVs and autonomous vehicles. Ford should be investing in fixing its quality problems and normal vehicles. Some of you people really don’t have a clue.

Model e is still the lifeblood of Ford, which is why many in Model e work extra hours to get the job done. Joking about it is not right.

November ‘22 retiree here, just wondering on OP comments ‘people on slack do not respond’…

Is slack the corporate approved business communication tool?

I thought it’s where employees for chat groups to sh#t-talk about others.

I did not even use Instant messenger or text, when I worked, too distractive.

If it’s not in an email, it’s dangerous, take attention away from concentration, not backed up, and is risky.

You should find another job as soon as you can. Especially if you feel that you are slipping. Things will not get better there so it’s best to leave on your own terms.

It’s always been that way, even before there was such a thing as working remotely.

Watch “the interview with the Bobs” in the movie Office Space. That’s from 25 years ago. This wouldn’t be funny if it wasn’t true.
