IBM no longer has IP worth stealing
It's more likely that IBM sales in China have tanked. The only justification for foreign companies to be in China was to gain access to the Chinese market. Without access to that market, there is no reason to be there. Don't forget that there is a major cost to locate in China besides the usual staffing and plant costs...companies had to give their IP output to the CCP. There's no reason to do that without major China sales.
I expect this is for political reasons. IBM doesn't want to get caught in the middle of the upcoming China - Taiwan war. Other companies don't either and are moving out of China. IBM doesn't want a repeat of the Na-i Germany problem.
Too little, too late.
And you think Indians cannot be bribed to steal IP information ? It's a heck of a lot cheaper for anyone in the espionage game. LOL !
Given how much the mainland Chinese steal IP, I don't blaim IBM from pulling out.
Much less dirty than detaining a foreign company's CEO, putting bugs in the bedroom of an ally's prime minister and suiciding whistle blower.
