Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The Long-Term Costs of Layoffs

Summary. While layoffs can lead to short-term financial benefits, research shows just how much of an impact they can have on employee engagement, morale, and loyalty — and how long that negative impact can last. Humanizing the layoff experience can help lessen the impact and set your business up for a more rapid recovery, but remember to go into the decision to do layoffs with clear eyes: There’s no such thing as a quick business win without a human cost to the business, and your rebound is likely to take years rather than months.

Speaking from personal experience, tech companies treat their employees the same way Exxon does. All large, publicly traded profit driven companies operate by the same principles. The pandemic “cater to the employee” days in tech is over.

No tech company, such as Google Meta Apple etc, would dare to treat their employees like Exxon because talent performance is so critical to company performance. A good programmer is highly desirable in job market.
For commodity companies including Exxon, it's all about keeping the cost low and production high.
Exxon still has too much fat, too many useless roles contributed no value. Wasting lot a lot of money on shareholder values. Look at the stagnating stock price...

There needs to be a study of the long term impact of mass hiring in low income/low quality 3rd world countries.

What happens long term when so many higher cost employees are discarded that there are not enough left to make corrections of the poor quality work?

What happens in the high cost work center when recruitment impossible because no viable career path?
