It seems the first wave passed over. The Systems Group was rather quiet. Is there any news for Power? Power sales is struggling, and it is a surprise they did not wield axes over them.

This has been talked about for a long time, and yet P & Storage just keep on trucking on a downwards trajectory, with little if any change to management or employee structure, which i find baffling.
There are pieces of systems group that IBM very much wants to partner off as the go forward strategy doesn’t support (eg scale out HW products, especially scale out TSS, and non-hybrid cloud) That’s approx 50% of systems. IBM would be happy to dump the whole division if the right partner and terms can be agreed on. IBM has been working to scale non-enterprise down to a skeleton crew (expert labs, Softlayer, etc etc) to make the partnership easy to swallow for any interested party who may want to purchase a customer base (just like they trimmed for the Lenovo split offs where Lenovo purchased the customer base). Yes Power sales and Storage sales are down, BUT it still makes money, and with proper management has a long term future as a partner with IBM. With HW rapidly moving to a commodity, IBM wants to exit that commodity piece of the business (manufacturing/assembly, marketing, and sales) and just become a technology provider (DuPont model) to the partner (eg P11 designs and innovation).
