Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

If they want to get rid of the most of us

Latest example of possible attrition tactics being this Vitori affair, why don’t they just make a VSP round? I’m not leaving for free. Many of us would take VSP and run, because morale, confidence in leadership, our perception of 2U as a workplace, dissatisfaction with compensation, are all in a pretty bad shape. I wouldn’t mind parting with 2U in such a civilized manner.

Voluntary severance comes up here over and over and the answer is always the same: this is a terrible idea. If someone leaves voluntarily, even with a severance package, when that severance package ends they tie their hands in terms of obtaining unemployment benefits. Don't do this.

why would someone quit right now?

there have been three ceos in 18 months. napeck and norden clearly do not have a plan. middle management is as demoralized as ICs, and terminating someone requires effort from those managers. the place is chaos and as long as you dont pi-s anyone off its kind of hard to get fired. also people who manage to get laid off or even fired often get severance for legal reasons. combine that with more layoffs and severance packages are kind of a sunk cost for 2u at this point

so 2u can offer voluntary severance packages now to push out quiet quitters and save on labor costs OR 2u can keep paying those employees their full salary and benefits for basically no work and still wind up paying the same amount of severance when the layoffs come

There are companies that actually do offer a VSP. At this point, I would consider it also.

You're right about the insurance thing. Cigna was some of the best health insurance I've ever had.

But I wish y'all would STOP with the voluntary severance talk. That literally does not exist and why would a struggling company pay us to leave when we can quit for free. Anytime I see anyone mention a voluntary severance just shows how naive (and kinda d-mb) some people are. Sorry not sorry.
