Yes, it is true that Walmart will hire someone that is functionally illiterate. They hire people that don’t speak one word of English. You don’t even need a middle school diploma. They don’t dr-g test. Basically, if your heart is beating, that’s good enough for Walmart. It’s pitiful and sad.
