Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Why pay the best people to leave, instead of trying to keep them?

Instead of throwing money at talented employees to keep them, we just paid so many of them to leave. Instead of valuing their skills and contributions, the leadership decided to cut them in layoffs that cost a fortune. It's ridiculous when you think about it. A total waste of both talent and money.

What bean counter has any idea who is the best at anything? Value leadership? Take away leadership for better control... You obviously know nothing about workplace culture. Ever notice the coworkers that win awards are the least efficient on staff ? Ever notice the most efficient never get recognized ? Ever notice only those that play the game get rewarded? Wake up

What choo talkin' bout Wilson?
Nobody recognizes talent here. It's all about su-king up.. the complainers get fired - the ones that got complained about stay - because management can manipulate them. The losers & laggards are a layoff cushion - they can be fired anytime - anywhere

Because they write off the payoff to leave. It's corporate America they dont care about you they care about wall street. I am not saying all leaders don't care but we know the board and the pep boys do not

I know it su-ks, but layoffs like this can be completely arbitrary and do not reflect a person’s ability. It happens to all of us at some point in our careers, especially in entertainment and more so now these days. Just know that being laid off is nothing to be ashamed of and is seen as normal for people hiring these days. And, layoffs are also a reminder, that like HR, companies do not care about their employees. We are just numbers on a spreadsheet. Watch out for yourself and proactively build your career and try to be resilient when layoffs happen.
