It's all on managers

Managers are the ones who have been resistant to change from the start and who wanted RTO as soon as possible. They are the ones who are more concerned with appearances than they are with productivity. They are more focused on control than collaboration. Being able to micromanage is apparently more important than the overall success of a team.

July 22, 2019 -- Tim Hockey to leave in February 2020 was announced.

October 1, 2019 -- Schwab announced free trades, hours later TDA did the same.

November 25, 2019 -- Schwab announces a deal to acquire TDA.

@2mnv+1uS5iY4W No one cares that TDA removed fees first. Schwab picked off your vulnerable company. You didnt have a CEO lined up before announcing retirement and losing 28% revenue was enough to convince the board to sell.

Schwab announced $0 fees. TDA actually beat Schwab to market on delivering $0 fees.

Board wanted to merge, CEO said nay and left.

The TDA CEO announced their retirement and Schwab dropped their trading fees to $0. TDA was making ~20% of their money on those fees. Schwab then offered to buy TDA. Their CEO was already on their way out.

That being said, the infighting between blue and green is only going to further the cultural divide; a sad mirror image of the red/blue political state of this country. We need a unifying leader who is willing to call out the issues and his plan to specifically address them in a way that motivates individuals and is right for the future of the company. We need to shift from being followers...(We're not even "fast followers") to instead being leaders in the industry. Hard to do when we fail to acknowledge our own problems.

The status quo isn't going to cut it unless we aspire to be the next Sears & Roebuck.

lol, blaming TDA managers?

TDA didn't ask for the merger to happen. In fact, the TDA CEO resigned due to his displeasure with the decision.

TDA managers didn't ask for the merger.

TDA managers didn't ask for RTO.

TDA managers aren't responsible for the pathetic Blue culture.

Blue culture - home of "we've always done it this way" and "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas"

Yeah our TDA Director now is not encouraging any team building activities in person. No perks like gift cards for folks who work long hours or odd hours. Just making our lives miserable. Our previous Schwab Director was nice sadly she was let go in Oct. She did really care. These TDA directors are maybe like 10 years younger but they lack humility.

More and more evidence ,the TD Managers ,Directors, and up DONOT care about Schwab employees under them.we know so much more than they can hope to dream of. Probably as pi---d as the schwabbies that this acquisition happened. Those of us have been here awhile are stuck with them. They have no clue how to understand Schwab culture, nor do they want to .

I spoke to manager to avoid an hour long one-way commute but she wouldn't allow me to submit the HR request. My manager, her boss the director, his boss the MD who came from TDA are all remote. I drive an hour to go into an office and be on Teams Calls for about 4-5 hours and drive back home 3 days a week. No one cares here in this company. I was hired 4 years ago during covid as a remote employee. Now In a team of 8 where everyone is remote I am the only individual contributor going in. So Now I am doing very minimal work while preparing to interview at the same time. Also my sabbatical is coming up I plan to leave right after the sabbatical.

My manager, director and VP were furious when RTO was announced, not one of them wanted RTO and all are miserable about it. It was EC and boomers who wanted RTO, don’t lump all managers in that group.

The problem with forced attrition is that the best people leave. Easier for them to get a better job. Schwab will ne left with the worst performers.

6 months ago I overheard three managers talking about RTO and they were laughing at the complainers and acknowledging that leadership wanted attrition. Today I walked by 2 of the same three complaining about how short staffed they are and that new hires are looking to leave. Funny isn’t it?

A Simple test would be to ask a Manager/Director/MD in (STS) to Build and Compile a software project they manage and if they can do it keep em. If not get rid of em. Easy!

As a PL I have a distributed team. RTO makes no sense. Yes, some peers are bad managers who want RTO. But some are being forced by policy. All I can say is my reports may not follow the policy. They know I support this but can’t help them if enforced.

The funny part is that leadership thinks culture and collaboration can’t be done online. This is because they didn’t grow up on AIM, yahoo messenger, and playing online games. If they don’t realize this fault in their judgement because they want to go back in time and want to pull a sly move to get people to quit this is going to backfire big time. The new hire class on the phones next to me is already talking about leaving to get more flexibility. Not only will we continue to lose talent but we are going to have a generational gap where no millennials or gen z work here. Great job turning us into the next Blockbuster
