I don’t see Oxy laying off at all. It seems we are understaffed in many departments with no lack of work. In my department which is technical you could literally work 12 hour days and still have the same workload the next day. It is not about being efficient or working smarter, but more about the volume. I am glad to have a good job with a great company, but at some point we need to hire people. I had a meeting this morning for an hour and came back to 30 emails with people needing something, and of course all needed it now. I have been here almost 10 years and have never seen it this busy. At least not for the last 4 years. Oxy needs to open up the wallet and hire more people. At this point the pay and perks are about to not be worth the stress.

My group is definitely understaffed but we are dealing with it creatively plus management pitches in as needed.
@1bde+1uOgojiE, sarcasm at its best!
Coz nobody will work for you. The industry knows what you are and your reputation.
You got way too many people. You don’t need to hire more but have a good ole fashion lay-off with minimal severance. You know like what they used to do in the 1980’s and 90’s. Not much of a package. Just pack up your stuff and get out. Oh, and you get great benefits at the career placement center. You know, access to the fax machine, all the phone calls you want, and help on your resume. As an added benefit you can even have access to the job adds in the domestic newspapers. And, make sure you use high quality resume paper because the hiring manager really will be impressed by the feel of the paper.
Understaffed = job security. You are not the first to be in this position. Do your job and see where the ride takes you.
