Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

UK Layoffs

Met some people at management level last week here. Consensus is 15% to 35% cut. Nit sure which end of that range is closer to truth. Another couple of weeks and we’ll know.

Reached out to someone who used to work here but left couple of years ago. He is in AI and security at an Alphabet spin off and says startup space is good work wise & pay wise but a lot of work and job security can still be a challenge.

Not sure what to do. There appears to be jobs in the U.K. but no one ever responds against an application. Every job gets over 200 applications on LinkedIn within 24 hrs of posting.

Agree. Local UK management makes LC look like a genius. And that's saying something. This is the last chance ELT has, if they wish to salvage anything in the UKI organisation: get rid of the Sales and SE top layer, most of the hordes of worthless excel expert managers who does nothing to earn a pay cheque and hire some genuine techies instead of pushing them out of the company due to personal ego issues. Save Cisco UKI, not the psychotic, narcissist management layer who have been crushing us for years for personal gains.

Let’s just be honest, look at the UK leadership now. It is in place due to its amazing track record of shrinking previously successful operations/businesses. Perfect for the upcoming storm.

I left in that time span too. Had a look at my stagnating career without any prospect of growth , gaslighting local management that I found eminently demotivating, demoralising and unqualified to lead from every possible aspect and the writing on the wall was bright and clear. UK organisation was on borrowed time couple of years ago. From some posts I have read in some other forums and from what I hear from ex-colleagues, it’s now circling the drain. Please consider Joining the FB Cisco alumni page - a lot of us are there helping out affected people offering referrals, support and camaraderie. All the very best with the next chopping session and the one after and the one after ..

Hopefully that gives you enough time to protect young females from Pakistani grooming gangs.

A lot of good people have left the UK business of their own accord in the last couple of years for their own various reasons. The number which is touted by the OP I don’t suspect will be this high as a lot of the UK is understaffed due to headcount not being replaced.

I was at a startup before joining Cisco - absolutely loved it. Fast-paced, feel like you are making an impact, problem solving every day. Came to Cisco because I thought I might see 'best practice' - but am actually seeing lethargy, complacency and struggling to get anything done (or visit any clients) because of the layers of bureaucracy and spending freezes.

Suspect I know the person you are referring to OP. You need to be a deep tech nerd in AI, Security, quantum etc. like he was to get a competitive job in this market. Getting into Google spinouts is not easy. BTW, I also hit him up, if we are speaking of the same person :-) . I am using this time to brush up on my skillsets, taking Udemy courses from Cisco subscription. Fingers crossed I'll find something by New Years. Either way job security at UKI org is nonexistent.

Jeez. It already feels like the last round gutted UKI. Where do you think they'll find the shavings? If I was in CX I think I'd be worried...
