Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

Stop being in denial

Yes, layoffs are always around the corner with the current state with the minimal data my expectations are

  1. the VRP did not yield sufficient numbers to avoid involuntary cuts
  1. faster competitive advances into our core markets than expected which will result in material reductions to forecasted business plans
  1. the ideal time to announce layoffs is -always- right before an earnings call so the table is cleared with decisive actions so that earnings forecasts can be cleanly reset

Also, anyone on the last town hall call heard P+C admit that all departments are looking to reduce staff costs.

  1. Groundskeeper Wi---e & J Davy are making headcount cuts of 5 to 10% right now in the biggest ops teams, so other areas must be planning similar.
  1. Makes sense the “target” of the new exercise is 600 jobs, given the 2024 target was 900 and the VRP delivered “only” 300 of those heads.

One thing is for sure, folks, we will find out soon.

Don't believe anything you read here - it's complete BS

It's just a bunch of disgruntled trolls who got laid off a long time ago and have no idea what's going on in the company now. They are posting nonsense and fiction.

I work with multiple teams in the company, and morale is pretty high. Everyone is hard working and dedicated to their jobs. I check Slack at midnight before bed, and so many people still have a green dot next to their name. I get late night emails from Git from people submitting code late. People are handling on call duties on the weekend. Some are even doing it while on vacation, while on maternity and paternity leave, and I've even seen it from a few people who were supposed to be retired.

I don't know anyone who is worried about layoffs. No one is leaving, and, in fact, the company has started hiring again. Of course that doesn't mean there won't be some low performers or people in business units that are no longer a priority let go here and there. But at many recent all hands, not just with Guru and Mark, but with other leaders too, there is a strong sense of optimism and a feeling that the company is moving in the right direction. It's not fake, it is a sentiment shared amongst many people I've talked with.

Look at the company's press releases. New deals and contracts are being announced on a regular basis. There are several other reasons, that cannot be named, to be positive about the future of this company. All I can say is that I have maxxed out my ESPP and cannot believe my good fortune to be acquiring shares at ridiculously low prices.

Why don't they just do another VRP round then? They said people in other countries were interested.

Because people in other countries tend to be cheaper than people in the US.

If the company was well run wouldn't it be, like, obvious? Must we squint really hard and ma-------e about tripping and falling to convince ourselves we're winning? We're accustomed to mediocrity that we've forgotten how competitive hard charging companies look and feel.

I am hearing today that one of J Davy managers in Ops is about to cut 5 heads and another manager also 5 heads. Each represent 5 to 10% team size.
This action will hurt mainly the Viasat maritime business, in terms of post-sale services rendered and in terms of customer satisfaction, but it seems our L2 and L3 don’t care.
This is very real folks, and I only see a tiny piece of Viasat.
