These jobs are probably coming from China or another south East Asian country that is too close to China.
Frankly this sounds like a tiny setup - even Cisco is only setting up less than a plant to generate less than 1/50th of revenue from here to begin with.
Sounds like something between a tiny test and a joke (in case it fails).
When were these jobs last in the US? If they come here - then profits will be way down and will only lead to more layoffs. Though that move might actually lead to Chuck being forced out.
It's delusional to bring these jobs back to the US now.
The plant is to manufacture routers and switches. Who here does that anymore ? I think that makes sense to move hardware manufacturing to cheap countries much like semiconductor manufacturing is done in Taiwan. Engineering will be left as is in US

Somebody tell me why conditions at a router factory won't be WORSE than an Apple Iphone factory.

Simply put - cost. US companies can pay India folks 20-30% of your salary for your work.
Doesn't mean that us workers are expensive or shouldn't be paid fair...Just means cost of living is lower in India and companies are taking advantage.

Apple/FoxConn had major issues with phones produced in India. From terrible QC to actual E. coli contaminating the handsets. They have since scaled back. How long before Cisco sends poorly assembled NCS540's with po-p finger prints to everyone. LOL, this company is a joke!

You can search the web for an analysis from Steve Jobs about the issues that go beyond labor costs that made China the focal point of Apple's manufacturing, and you'll hear similar reasons for what Chuck is hoping will happen in India as American companies are finally learning that keeping all their eggs in China's basket may not be an ideal long term solution.
Simply cost effective and for their domestic consumption as well. Nd it's HUGE..a single order from India telecom may be 10 to 100 times more than any other telecom operators.. India n China due to population are huge Market. If cisco don't setup, Huawei or some other provider will setup and take all orders as most telecom are ruled to prefer made in india stuff.
