Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Retirement

Considering how many older employees have been shown the door in the last few years with no end in sight, I think we're at the point where we'd have better luck finding a needle in a haystack than successfully retiring from this place. That's where we're at right now.

What is a “successful” retirement?

No more retirement parties unless you are a VP. Older employees are targeted. We need a good class action lawsuit!

A bit like the mythical unicorn I think..? lol

I think I went to one retirement party in almost 2 decades at Cisco...
(Both a testament to the guys hard-work, his legendary ar-e-kissing and self--promotion, and a side dose of luck at not being in a collapsing business area...not underselling his hard work either, but alone that wasnt nearly enough - not even then...)

Everyone, literally everyone else I knew either got the bullet, or left for better pastures..
Plus several folks had mental breakdowns also...including one chap for handling almost a dozen critical CAP cases at the same time..! (One was strangely enough still on the company books many years later, not sure what the deal was there...)

I arrived through an acquisition, and left through an impending LR (took the deal just before the announcement). I never asked to work for Cisco, and was never offered a role that I was qualified to do. Lots existed, but nope. The whole time (3+ years) was misery. I very nearly went out on disability for my mental health, before landing my dream job somewhere else, for $40k more than Cisco was paying me.

It is easy for me to believe that my story isn't particularly unusual.

55+? Count the days. Not many retirements here.

Get out before you turn 30 years old or else you will regret it later

Every day for the ELT. Most of the csco employees have no professional courtesy and etiquette anyways so this is along the all about me and no one else for the newer crowds. Wonder why people are dropping services? Who wants to deal with arrogant tools? Su-ks having them as employees too. Simple little things that apparently having excr-ment like trevor noah, pink, and dopra are more important to waste money on rather than a simple party. It's not like a webex costs a bunch but the effort is more than most ICs and all of the ELT are capable of.
