Thread regarding 3M layoffs

CBG spin off/sale

During the flurry of new releases and PR for the Healthcare spin off several analysts mentioned that CBG was the next candidate for spin off/sale from 3M. An analyst from JP Morgan mentioned the poor performance and lackluster sales results for CBG. P&G as well as Kimberly Clark were mentioned as possibilities. It has been a bit over 4 months with the new CEO but many coworkers I know are just silently waiting for some form of big changes in CBG. It is just a matter of time.

Bumping this up so it’s not lost in replies.

Hg has been given a top secret project to work with external consultants to assess a buyer. Seen a few emails…

KC is hanging on by a thread. Not meeting op will be her stage left to “retirement “ so it’s a quarter away. HG can’t wait. Although she is also just lots of talk and no substance. Her team just avoids her. LL’s understanding of a pnl is weaker than a newborn’s understanding of calculus. The questions he asks are baffling.

The bench strength in cbg is very mediocre. That business is surviving on brand.

"I strongly suspect 3M is actually having trouble recruiting qualified candidates for senior executive roles."

Is this a surprise?

Nice analysis! Also don't forget between Strat planner and Medtronic:

<6 months at United Health - Scrubbed from Linkedin because it's a bad look.

I think you're absolutely right.... 3M is having trouble keeping high performing talent and hiring high performers into the company... so we're stuck with people like the CBG R&D SVP... sigh.... time to go.....

Spin CBG to PE firm. SVP R and D doesn't matter - CBG doesn't do any real R&D

To: Varys’ Chum:
Per Google AI Overview, “nepotism is the practice of people in positions of power giving unfair advantages to their relatives and family members, often at the expense of others.”

Your point is well taken, just helping clarify terminology as what you are referring to might be favoritism, or even cronyism.

How is it nepotism? They are related?

It would help if Karina had not hired a low-performer for the SVP of R&D role! Nepotism at is best. This new hire barely lasted 6 months at United Health after leaving 3M as a manager during the pandemic …. and then found a senior director role at Medtronic! How does a Sr Director suddenly jump 3 levels in 2 years and become a SVP at 3M?

It’s nepotism at his best! Or maybe a SVP is just a made up role and carries little weight

CBG managers are 100% lost. They think fault is from rest of people but the reallity is we are selling productos from the 80s, no NPI, no marketing, sales people buried in administrative task

Favoritism and nepotism !

All upper management positions use some of these ...isms.

It is not based on merit, capability or credentials, that is for sure.

The plants are pulled on stretch targets from different functional groups. Planning asked for lower inventory with hight OTIF. Plant Ops ask for high OEE with low expense and headcount. Procurement ask for high MOQ and qualify multiple sources. Logistic asks for longer lead times to cater for transportation variability. But no one is sharing the plans for more growth. Wonder how the external investors are driving up the share price about?

come on people , the analysts are winning , get the share price up , the plants are being tested right now for which will be shut, there is no investment, some directors are being sent to plants to act like there will be investment but this is a front. Wait until start of November for plants closures to be announced. A lot of plants will get the 12-24 month closure period, Twin Cities is setting up all the insiders to have a nice payday, share price will plummet after the next litigation hit . Well thats what the tea leaves say.

Why is the stock price increasing? Because history is repeating itself. Look to the McNerney days. Padding the bottom line by not investing. Not sustainable, ask Buckley.

BB is making moves that the big financial institutions like. 2 big law suits in the rear view mirror. I do not see him increasing sales sadly but another axe man I fear. The company is running much leaner and will be reaping those benefits in the coming quarters. Possible plant consolidations incoming. (Just me speculating ) The stock price is a real puzzle to me also. That’s part of BB’s job and I guess he is executing well on it.
