Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Proof you are going to a competitor?

I've heard if someone puts in their 2 weeks to go work for a competitor, then Cisco will have them leave immediately, but still pay them the 2 week notice. Does Cisco ask for proof of anything, like offer letter? Asking for a friend.

I have not seen them ask for proof. I managed one employee in this situation over 10 years ago.

It does not make sense to ask. I would expect most employees would refuse to show an offer letter regardless.

I resigned a year ago and was going to a competitor. I told my manager and he said it's the Company's policy to let you go immediately. He told me to clean up my laptop and submit any expenses and I will lose access at the end of the day. I had a decent relationship with my mgr, so no BS was experienced. He wished me well and told me to enjoy a 2-week break.

When I left Cisco the first time for a competitor-I told them and the next day they revoked badge and access and walked me out the door. Today I probably wouldn’t tell-if I were you it’d depend on my relationship with my manager. If the manager makes emotional decisions, they might try to get you blackballed at the new employer before you start. If you have a good manager and want the two week break, then go ahead and just tell them-it should be enough.

I got walked off site an hour after I put in my 2weeks. Glad I was able to be out sooner and had time to reset for the new job.

Everyone says they are going to take a break and then decide what to do next.

This is a small world so don't be a jerk because the guy you upset today might be someone you will deal with down the road.

Yeah you absolutely do not have to tell them where you’re going or even give 2 weeks.

Unless you have a non-compete, why even tell them where you’re going?
