Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Is there a way to get your 401k vesting sooner?

I hate working here and am interviewing actively and want to get out; working here has been a net negative overall

Ford has MAJOR culture and bureaucracy issues. I want Ford to be successful but I am very worried right now.

I agree with @k-k+1uFY1pvq. I know a few cases that are worse off. Recently, I went through the fake job postings, the ghosting (even after the interview), the fruitless searches, the recruiters, and I am still at Ford.

However, I still think that certain cohorts will fare better outside Ford. Therefore, the best they can do is get a new job and move on.

Good luck.. what I meant is job hopping is like gambling, there might be something better, however there are a lot of places that much worse. Also, a majority of job postings are fake for various reasons, holding budgets, tax reasons, and some companies just want to give the appearance that they are growing.

No, if you are referring to the money that the company is contributing, then you have to work there until that money vests. After that you can move and roll that money into an IRA. If you go before those funds vest, then Ford keeps its money and you can move only the funds that you contributed to an IRA.

The answer to this question is an unequivocal no. The vested money isn't yours until it is.

As for this comment: "Good luck.. going elsewhere." Not sure if this is designed to be discouraging or what. Ford is no daisy..by a long shot. Are you implying that its better than most? If so, hardly.. and the job market is there for people who want to work. Living below your means...absolute correct sentiment there. But don't for a minute think Ford is some kind of island someone would be wise to stay on. They need to sell cars...they aren't exactly doing a good job of that at the moment. If anything its a great time to be looking to go to another company. If you MUST stay in automotive and but your employment at a rather heightened risk, go to a supplier that services multiple OEM automakers. You'll end up replacing in house engineering staff anyway.

I have been in the field for almost 30 years, and have worked many places besides Ford.
Good luck.. going elsewhere. Live below your means and save. Ebaneerzer Scrooge should be your role model.
