Technology company HCL America is laying off at least 57 employees in Cary as part of a restructuring, the company told state commerce officials.
The Santa Clara, California-based subsidiary of Indian tech consultancy HCL Technologies Ltd. expects the positions to be eliminated between Nov. 1 and Jan. 6, it said in a layoff notice filed in compliance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
Companies are required to provide notice of layoffs of 60 positions or more under the WARN Act. HCL said that it filed the notice anyway, despite being under the threshold, because it expects more layoffs over the three-month period.
A company representative didn’t immediately respond to a request for details about additional layoffs in North Carolina. HCL has more than 20,000 employees in the U.S.
The North Carolina workers are based at a client facility near HCL’s corporate office at 11000 Regency Parkway in Cary.
Affected employees have been notified, the company said in its notice to state officials. They’ll have the opportunity to be hired for other roles in the company, HCL said.
