Everyone quotes the 400 million first q charge as how IBM pays for this weeks RA’s. (NOTE IBM usually gets 10-12k of employees in the USA per billion). What everyone is forgetting is the extra 500 million that IBM pocketed from Palo Alto when they sold off security in Aug. With that said, if the 500 million is included in the restructuring which the CFO said would be in the 2nd q analysts call, then 8k seems very easily attainable with perhaps a little more. 900 million could easily get you to 10k
From the article:
"IBM has apparently begun layoffs of as many as 8,000 people... Jason Andersen, a former IBM manager who today serves as VP/principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy... said his overall take on the layoffs is that 'it was a bit of a yawn.'"
He seems nice.
