LR’d team member who was a top performer but the incompetent and lazy ones are left. Management would rather layoff competent staff and keep the low performers. Disgusting how ineffective the leaders are able to make these decisions. Easier to fire competent people than deal with low performers

In theory top performers are often rewarded handsomely, which makes them costly, which paints a target on their backs when the financial analysis for LRs is done. Sprinkle in some favoritism at all levels of management, and you get the formula for who is laid off. It's easier to manage a compliant, lazy, report who won't question you and drain your bonus/rewards budget than a top performer who you need to pay to keep around and may butt heads with the boss because he/she knows better
everyone still thinks performance matters one bit, you just act like your doing stuff, have lots of meetings, send back whatever your boss asks you to do quickly even if half A ss as they wont read it. keeping off LR is 100% image management , kissing up, and being a yes man , DEI helps if you are totally ignorant and use crayons.
The amount of experience and engineering talent walking out the door is incredible… if only cisco just got rid of the middle fat layer but the paper pushers keep winning…
Grade 11 or higher, Over 50, Remote workers, US/Europe based are all in the LR algorithm.
At 50 I wasn't the oldest on my team and one of the lower paid. I always hit or overachieved my targets. It was pure favoritism and politics that ended my days. Some of the lesser performers remain.
LRs these days have zero to do with performance and all about how much money you make and how old you are. You are just a number, so never compromise your health or family on the company's behalf; it will never be reciprocated.
It is sad, but this kind of issue exists in almost every company, say you believe you or some one are high performer, but in other point of view by others, it may not be what you thinkabout.
Performers are usually eager to improve and vocal with issues for the betterment of the team.
But we have all these bootlickers who spent their years climbing up the ladders with politicking. Obviously they won't keep anyone in the team who will make them look like an id--t.
Sad, but true.
