Many economists consider anything under 5% as "full employment." We're at 4.2%.
It was much worse in 2008 when people quit Cisco because they hated it so much and still got new jobs. I know people in their 60s who have changed jobs recently. I also know Cisco's quality metrics and there is a long list of good reasons why many of you aren't able to find new jobs.
I'm grateful to have been born to parents who grew up in the great depression. I know the value of being frugal and continuing to remain competitive as my career grew. Too many kids today grew up in giant nerf bubbles with no immune system to deal with the outside world. When things really do go wrong you'll be begging for what you have now.
What's going on in the economy? Everything we predicted would happen 4 years ago has been happening. So, fix it in November and hope that there's not a new world war before Jan 20.

Was hired at Nvidia two months ago - they have a ton of jobs for people with real skills. Remote-US.
Isn’t it around 4%? How is that ridiculous?
Until self driving buses take over.
my local school district needs bus drivers!
don't laugh - these people can get full pensions and they have the same great health insurance as all state employees
There are tons of jobs out there. They just don't offer a 401k or health benefits
As usual the devil is in the details. The unemployment rate is relatively low and we keep adding new jobs. Great news, right?
But if you dig in, the major job creation has been in hospitality (return of all the jobs we lost during the pandemic), healthcare and construction.
But there are losses in IT and manufacturing.
The politicians spend a lot of time talking about bringing manufacturing back (and this is important to our economy) but I don't hear anyone talk about bringing tech jobs back.
Wait until the October layoffs from most of big tech
Hearing that the February LR will be worst than this one. Offices other than SJC and RTP are next from what the word on the street is.
