Has anyone that’s been laid off applied for unemployment benefits and been approved? Wondering if DOL will deny if still within the severance period.

You will not qualify if your severance is higher than the max unemployment benefit. Since you have to certify/apply weekly, you can apply right before your severance stops if you still need it. Hope that helps.
If you are laid off, HR should walk you through that.
Usually it start after severance stops you still have to contact them for directions
