Remote hires and the Unum / Colonial Life “Quiet Fire”

Remote employees from all over the country are being pushed out of UNUM through the quiet firing process. Current long time remote workers are facing the reality that there is no longer a chance for advancement or promotion. Over the last 12 months, Unum has outsourced most customer service related positions, and domestic hiring dwindled significantly within those roles- just enough domestic hiring done so as to not raise alarm bells within media or ie, most importantly, their shareholders - leaving those still employed in the area of customer service, cornered into quitting or some holding out hope and applying for the only available positions open to remote employees that are unfortunately similar to the previous role and previous pay. 99% of open positions that are listed to internal employees are listed as only accepting applicants for location based individuals who are to be onsite for the initial training process then told the job will be remote once training is complete.
