The stealth IT layoffs in 2018 were 10%, spread over the whole year to avoid triggering the WARN act and getting bad publicity.

The layoffs in 2019 were 12%.

So they were really mass layoffs both years.

Roller coaster staffing levels, going up and down that often, shows poor planning by the SLT.

2012-2015: RMott decides to insource IT, followed by massive hiring sprees to fill in the new innovation centers.

2019: mass layoff (preceded by stealth layoffs in IT throughout 2018)

2020: announce hiring of 3000 new tech workers

2023: close AZ innovation center, throwing 941 people out of work

2024: layoff another 1000 in software & services, including 600 in Michigan.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

When you make everyone do the work of 2 or 3 people you can get by with a lot fewer employees.
