Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I know I'm among the lucky ones

I've only been with Cisco for two years. I'm also single and don't have any kids so if I'm laid off, it's just me I have to worry about. I look at my older coworkers, and some of them seem petrified. It's a completely different situation for most of them. I was talking to a guy who told me he wouldn't even know where to start when it comes to interviewing since it's been over 20 years since he last looked for a job. I can only imagine how scary this must be for all of them. I know all companies do layoffs, but that still doesn't make it right.

At least your buddy who's been there 20 years is going to get almost 2 years of severance if he gets laid off.

Why does a person's marital or parental status have anything to do with this less than great Cisco situation?

Being a responsible adult, whatever your chosen lifestyle is, means having a back up plan & sufficient infrastructure to exist in a country that is employment at-will.

Wow so short sighted. You could say the same for when you don’t pull it out in time that is what happens.

Shame on your co-workers as they should have left years ago when the ship began to sink

My fear is that the whole tech industry is laying off in large numbers. Intel and Cisco were public about it and more is coming this fall quietly. From what i hear it is reminiscent of the 70s when layoffs outpaced new jobs to where unemployment was double digits

@cvs+1u6AmS2F I‘ve started looking for a new job after my LR.

I’m a single mom, who only became one because I was able to financially secure myself with this job and leave a domestic violence relationship. The thought of getting laid off is gut wrenching, and keeps me up every night. I have no idea what I would do if I got laid off.

I’m single too without kids, and companies like Cisco or other tech giants aren’t a stable place to build a family. If you’re younger, invest your money wisely to create revenue streams so you don’t have to rely on those political su-kers leading Cisco.

Just always keep money saved on the side. I'm in my 40s with kids and all so yes, it would su-k but it's temporary. Worst case scenario I'd take a lower paying job for a year or two or whatever it took until finding something at the same pay.

It's part of the cost of being at Cisco for sure.
