LOA, Medication, Alcohol

Out of nowhere another teammate is going out on an LOA due to anxiety and stress. I was in the office last week and people opened up about the damage being done due to the pressure and toxic work environment. Soooo many people coping with anti anxiety meds, alcohol, edibles - I was stunned. Nice job upper mnngt. Enjoy your new sailboats and fancy cars, people are physically hurting by the unhealthy stress this place causes. Anyone else seeing this in their groups? My group is in FI, client facing.

Hear me out… what if people say “anxiety” as a blanket statement. I was out on LOA because I had a miscarriage but it’s not my coworkers business and I’m sure everyone assumed it was stress related.

Back before Covid, I regularly had 25% of my team out for a year or more due to work stress. It’s a terrible environment if you’re on the phones. Drinking is a natural progression

I've had to start ashwagandha to deal with the stress. The only problem is ashwagandha makes you lose your filter. So wish me luck to me in meetings

If you if claim a mental disability they will still find a way to push you out if you are not an extremely high performer. They demand results and returns and could care less about your personal life or mental or physical wellness. They have been sued multiple times for wrongful termination and still do not care. Unless a union happens or a class action lawsuits materializes, they continue to find ways to maximize profits and keep building homes in Martha’s Vineyard. The Johnson’s would toss Fidelity in a heartbeat if it didn’t continue to produce 20% returns. We are just pawns to the billionaires and nothing more.

As a boomer, we kept quiet about the stress and anxiety and dealt with it by self medicating, coming home angry, unhappy marriages, eating unhealthy, heart attacks and strokes.
Our kids saw this and thus want a different work environment and thus say “no thank you” and tap out using LOA days to stay healthy and sane.
Hopefully they will change work environment once they are in control and won’t repeat our mistakes.

It wasn't "out of nowhere"- this teammate was likely struggling well before they explored the LOA option. It's a very uncertain time in the company and anxiety is at a peak within my customer facing team. 3 long tenured folks quit this week on my team alone along with one of my former managers. This is going to be a rocky few months for a lot of folks, so people are doing what they need to do to protect their time and sanity.

even if on LOA, they need to be in for their connect week.

First 20 years I worked here there was maybe 1 person who went out on leave. Now it's a new person weekly. Same job except back then we wore suits and dresses to the office. Not sure what's up with people now.
