Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

I am really starting to hate my job

Modernization is bringing me down. The raise this week was pretty much the ONLY positive thing that’s happened in my job in 2024.

Who decided “modernization,” the way we are doing it, was a good idea? I work in billing. I get screamed at daily by agents because of our inflexible du----s system and it’s really starting to effect my mental health. I miss the days of actually being able to do things to help customers, and maybe lighten someone else’s burden, but now I just get screamed at because my hands are legitimately tied.

I’m so tired but I don’t think I’d be able to find another job that pays remotely what they pay plus benefits.

I enjoyed the customer but hated the office politics with a passion.

If you're starting to hate your job, maybe you should be starting to look for another one, so you can start to quit this one.

$9/hour software engineers cost Boeing billions. Cutting corners cutting costs is expensive.

Outsourcing makes sense

Yeah since the tipsord era started they seem to be doing everything possible to get to a position where no one wants to work for them and therefore, outsourcing is needed. State Farm is secretly (well not so much but its never said) starting up a Guatemalan call center (its not over seas technically so its nearshoring!!)

Claims is the next step, they havent been properly staffed since rust was in charge, and the replacements for the skilled legacy SF handler stick around for like 6mo-1year only and leave before they even start to learn the role, which makes interactions with the company low quality.

board of directors has straight ruined what was a great american company, its disgusting to watch. Claims, Underwriting, Agency, all three are horrific at this point with the only "improvements" being on the cost cutting side.

Oh and those raises everyone got was because they will be hiring new people at the same salary as people who have been here forever, they do this all the time, and its a sign they are keeping their workforce at the bottom end of their pay scale for the role on purpose, and need to pay more so they can hire externals for more than youve earned over the last 10 years working for the company.

Eventually this company will just be a handful of billionaire executives and an automated process managed overseas for pennies.

OP here. I fully expect my position to be outsourced within 5 years.

I’m not sure how agents are gonna deal with completely inflexible billing plus outsourcing but by the time it happens I won’t care

This is 100% why I do not and would never have State Farm insurance tho.

More reason to outsource to HCL. Angry employees don’t work. They milk the company. Outsource now.

SF leadership started to tank from 1990 to 1995 to present. There are no leaders just sheep to der fruher.

@1xtk I’m pretty sure the “managers” go through everyone’s and look for anything they can criticize. A real manager would be there to help us, not to fu-k us up. This place is 10x worse to work at when you have a bad manager.

Health insurance isn’t that great, I’ve been through a surgery now and it took me months to get blue to pay for the costs and some went to collections.I had some of the worst personal experiences whether benefits or coworkers working here. A good amount of people seem to hit the pothole vs fill the pothole here whether it’s internal, external or vendors. Meanwhile I made one mistake in the 100+ or so things I’ve touched in a month and got berated for it in 1x1’s. I have no idea how people have stayed employed being so mediocre.

Be wary of raises.

They gave me a $10,000 raise off cycle 2 years ago, then they outsourced 900 of us to HCL.

Will the 25 cents an hour raise help?

I’m terrified that it seems like the ECS interface is about to be replaced with the white screen and blue links MAX stuff that goes down all the time. It doesn’t work more than half of the days every week! That should be fun in claims.
