Stock at G10

When you reach G10 does that mean you get stock every focal cycle? I started at a G6 and now a G8 and have gotten stocks a couple times during focal but not every time. Not a lot of course. Didn't know if this is just because manager didn't have a lot to give or a vast majority goes to the higher grades. But you can definitely get stock before g10.

I assume this thread started as a response on my reply to https://www.thelayoff.com/t/1u0F0Rw5 "Advice for Splunkers joining Cisco?" I wrote:

You start receiving RSUs beginning Grade 10. That significantly boosts your salary from very low to so-so.

That's how it is in my team for years over several managers. I was assuming it's common across Cisco.

When I was grade 10, I got $70k in RSUs. Now, at grade 11 I get $100k in RSUs. Every year. I don't know how much my co-workers get, but the ones in grade 10 and 11 with whom I discussed that all get RSUs. Well, one grade 11 avoids taking over responsibilities and does not always get RSUs. The rule of thumb in my team is those in grade 10 and 11 who meet expectations do get RSUs. You don't need to be a superstar.

$100k are a significant chunk of my total compensation. That are $1m over 10 years and $3m over 30 years. I can't imagine how it would be without it.

Manager and upper levels steal all the RSUs and give you left over few crumbs. I got a few 3 years ago but none in the last 2 years at G11.
I know politics and other factors affect the amount of RSUs that you get.

I am a GR11 and have been for many years. The only time i have ever gotten RSUs is when i was eligible for a merit based raise and there wasnt enough liquid cash in the focal to give me an actual raise....which seems to be a common theme these days.

Guidance they train leaders on is that
grades 12+ get mostly RSU and very little raises or promotions.
grades 10-11 get raises, some RSU and very little promotions
grades below 10 get a lot of raises, a lot of promotions and none or very little RSU.

No. I give my budget to the higher grade ranges (12+) where there is an expectation that stock is a larger part of your total comp. Past that there is very little left.

No one in my department has ever gotten RSUs, and we have several grade 10s. It's not by grade, it's by department budget and manager.

I was previously a director level people leader at Cisco. There is no policy for grade level stock allocation. Further, there are many factors involved in allocation. Performance is key, but if there are others in your group that have not received any allocation and are performing well, sometimes there is only so much to go around. Additionally, there are set “minimum” thresholds where stock can’t be awarded if it doesn’t meet a minimum allocation amount. In other words, if your minimum is $10 and there is only have $6 in the leaders budget, they would have to award the $6 elsewhere. Hope this helps.

I'm a 10 and haven't got stocks during bonus season. Only from the initial stock plan when I signed on and after the first year it vests every quarter. From what I was told, managers only have a finite amount of RSUs to give out during bonus time and it usually goes based on performance but that could be smoke.
