Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

For those who get the bad news....

  1. You will get your 1:1 email....some (decent) managers will do it in the prescribed timeframe. Those who (su-k) like mine did in Feb. sent it so late I thought I was safe. I'd only talked to the clown 3x in 1.5 yrs, so why should I have been surprised? 2) no HR person present 3) prescribed speech read to you; 4) no details of the package--you get that emailed to you ; 4) if you had a "manager" like mine, you will get a BS offer to "help you" find a new role; 5) said Id--t boss will not respond to email when you get a new job at AN AWESOME, HUMAN company so they have to find another way to confirm you worked at "the greatest place to work." 6) you will look back and realize that when you were working at Cisco, you were like a frog being boiled alive. 7) you'll be truly happy again!

Once you’re notified you’re on your own pretty much as most of your access gets removed.

This varies. When I was laid off in 2020, there were no accesses turned off.

You had to get approval if you left before the 60 days and we were instructed to sign on the last day.

Nope, No penalties or impact that I am aware of.. They had many new hires that where working 2 jobs for 6-9 months and the only reason they were found out was of someone they knew spilled the beans.. IF it was me I would accept the position and move forward with my career and collect the severance..

How soon after the email/meeting do you get the package details ?

You should have no problems with getting references -there is a PDF in workday -performance review download that and hand it over to your next employer.
If Cisco refuses to give you references (which they will do because you will use every reason they give you to sue them if you could) then so be it that works for you.

I recorded my manager when he read that back to me when we had the 1:1 performance review call :-). He knew he was going to get rid of me so to avoid frictions he gave me an excellent review which actually was a lie even if it pleased me. So blatant lie that I was biting my tongue not to laugh in the call with him.

No. Once you’re notified you’re on your own pretty much as most of your access gets removed. You will have 2 opportunities to sign your paperwork, when you sign is solely your decision.

Your former local manager has no say so, nor should you discuss with them.

When I was notified my manager was off script and so awfuI to me, I actually wasn’t sure what was happening. Then all I wanted to do was to get their ugly face off the DX screen so they couldn’t look at me or virtually be in my home.

100% agree you will end up truly happy. However I am not trying to downplay the emotions you will feel if it happens. Use your support network to get you through it and when you do get past it you will look back and be glad youre gone. Then you can sit back and enjoy this site with thousands of others who have been let go as well.

Are there any penalties or impact to your layoff package if you accept and start at another company before the 60 (or 90 day) grace period ends?
