Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Burned out by the Change-a-holics

The amount of change going on here is becoming un-bearable. There seems to be some change every month or more. People are getting burned out and no amount of mental health emails is going to fix it. What the h ell is going on with our management? 2020 was supposed to be the "change to end all change" but it's been a disaster since. I want the Chevron back before MW came in and ruined it. I've been here 13 years and seen layoffs but nothing like this mess! Wake up management before all your talent walks away and you are the only one left!

Oil patch is an ever changing story, so don't complain. Our bad luck is that we don't have strategic leaders who can drive the company towards long term goals and continually correct course to achieve those goals. These goals are typically agnostic of technology, headcount or short term profits but they put the company at strategic market advantage. Unfortunately our leaders are learning from management consultants and the consultants keep promoting their structures (such as Agile vs CPMS) and the goals based on their hours and earnings potential but not CVX's strategic advantage. This is why we see a lot of u-turns, buzz around technology, talent loss and forgotten efforts as they prove to be useless for the company.

a literal "dumpster" file that has no hope of being put out- they(MW & co)use the word transformation/changes to cover up their sc--w ups!

It’s an easy fix….become a “Change Agent” and no problems. You will welcome and embrace the change that is always inevitable! That’s the only thing you can’t change is change.

Let me let you in on a little clue Junior, change is a part of life. Ive lived a lot of years and that’s one thing that I’ve learned.

The way you succeed in life is you anticipate it and you get used to it.

Well it could be worse folks. Instead of Mike you could be stuck with Gavin Greasy Hair Newsome as CEO.

@mcq Absolutely agree. Executives are to arrogant to admit they messed up. It's always someone lower than themselves fault. Then they get big raises and cut things for everyone else. It's a complete disaster right now.

The problem was set up by the "Transformation". When very bad decisions were made on a complete overhaul of the whole "Chevron Way", successive managers are left trying to make incidental changes to try to make a stupid system work. It is an impossible task. What is needed is for Sr. management to admit they made a horrible mistake and institute a full roll back (but that is never going to happen). The previous system was not perfect, but the new one is simply a rolling $hitshow.

MW is beholden to Wall St. (as well as his and his cronies retirement funding, now just a few years away). He messed up Downstream circa 2010 and was rewarded to mess up the rest of the Company since. He is not an innovator, not a risk-taker, not a leader, not a role model. No, at the time he was anointed CEO, there wasn't anyone else who had those 4 qualities, and there isn't now. Unfortunately, we are, as OP mentions it, caught in a vicious cycle of alternating layoffs and "transformations" every five years.
