Absolutely needed cuts! Senior directors travel between US and other locations every six months. This is absolute waste of money. I know few in IT who travelled along with their buddies to PA office from Bangalore office at least six times even after acquisition was announced. Can you believe it ?? They should be ashamed of themselves for wasting company money for their leisure trips. vmware HR was total disaster to say the least. Money was spent like water without any checks and balances. Eventually company doomed. Now accept the reality and get back to work.

My manager has 12 reports. I talk to him once a month for 20 minutes. Worthless.
span of control review process has been done algo is simple cut is huge

Very good move to reach target of 7k employees. There are way too many Senior Directors, Directors and Senior Managers. Wondering what exactly they do in 8 hours workday ? Broadcom is not an asylum company like vmware. There are few entitled ones too who are identifying themselves with various DEI Pods in earlier vmware. Bottomline is vmware had too many useless head counts/hierarchy and vmware HR failed miserably to do checks and balances.
