4 year laptop refresh for a ‘cutting edge’ company

So with the layoffs in Feb, the mandated PTO to dump PTO off the books before another LR plus half bonus(prob.zero bonus in Sept), we now have the 4 year laptop refresh w employee purchase plan(ha ha ha ha) now 2nd LR. I’m trying to think what’s next…

There’s a page in the refresh section that says the refresh program has been “paused” and that during the pause the refresh cycle is extended to 4 years. I can think of a few reasons - let Apple get all Macs to M4 (my hopeful guess), get Splunk in sync with Cisco IT, deal with the influx of laptops from the LR, some combo of these and/or other reasons…

Any IT folks care to weigh in?

A bonus is just that and shouldn't be expected and you can always buy your own laptop.

But Cisco considers the "bonus" as part of your "total compensation package" when they try to say they pay in the upper percentile for their industry. Then when they take it away, it's really a pay cut and not a "bonus".

People wanted to buy their old laptops and have asked for years, but Cisco said they couldn't do that for many (ever changing) reasons. Just 6 months ago, it was announced that we'd be able to buy them and then silently they extended our laptop leases by 12 months. Who wants to buy a 4 (or in some cases 5) yr old laptop that's based on a 5 yo tech spec (the 2019 Intel Mac)? If you got the 2019 Intel Mac in '22 and now have to keep it until '26, do you really want to buy a system that's effectively 7 yrs old? I might buy a 4 yo M2 or M3 series Mac down the road, but yeah, I've probably already bought my own.

Personally, I don't care about the additional 12 months being added to the lease as I refreshed over a yr ago, but there were people who had been extended a year for whatever reason and were due a refresh a week before this silent extension went into effect and now they're stuck w/ the same laptop for 5 yrs! Should have been grandfathered into the old 3-yr plan and only extend those w/ who've had their laptops less than 24 months.

Ah, po-p! You’re right. Stuck with an Intel MacBook for another year. Well, unless they refresh me first.

CISCO IT just changed from 3 yr to 4 yr. Check your device page.

If you so unhappy why not go somewhere else? A bonus is just that and shouldn't be expected and you can always buy your own laptop.
