Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

What about Chris McCarthy’s team??

Was his overall group impacted at all? Given the write downs for the cable networks announced during the Earnings Call, his team should have had massive cuts. He is incompetent and creates chaos with his awful style of work.

Paramount fantasy script:

  1. INT ELLISON'S OFFICE

It's the day the Skydance deal closes. DE calls CMC to his office, making him wait for :45 mins while he finishes his breakfast.

DE, to his admin: "Ok, send him in."

CMC walks into DE's office, sits in a very small chair, while DE sits up higher in a grand office throne.

DE: "Hey Carl, how are you holding up?"
CMC: "It's Chris."
DE: "Oh right. Chris. You're fired."

I can't speak for other channels, but in the spring of 2020, roughly 50% of PN employees were let go. This was after enduring five rounds of layoffs from 2018 to 2020. With each wave, the team shrank further, and by the time the pandemic hit, there were already very few people left. I wouldn’t be surprised if even more have been let go since then. I don’t believe they could operate with any fewer people.

If there’s ever a hit piece against CMC, I hope to god they use the photo from that THR interview.

What's happening is just disgusting... The company is purging some of its best, most visionary leaders (CMO from Paramount+ and Nickelodeon, both gone) in favor of incompetent MTVE sycophants who are petrified of Chris.

It would be one thing if the culture at MTVE was just cut-throat, but it's worse than that. It's run by phony, sub-par hacks who only care about their own survival, and avoiding Chris' wrath.

And, the cuts aren't even done yet. Skydance is going to be left with a shell of an org, run by hyenas and vultures who will start to eat other the moment its convenient.

We still have plenty of fat to trim.

SVP and EVPs of nothing all reporting into each other. Not a single brain cell among them.
At least 2 in social, 2 in creative, project management, marketing, scheduling, comms all the same. Org is top heavy, useless and terrified of chris. Expensive paper pushers at best that copy paste other peoples work for him without reading.

Start cutting at the top and do what they did to Nick team: alphabetical by first name starting with AC

Tommy Free knows what’s up. Chris being a content guy or a creative is a joke, a not funny at all joke. Complete fraud. The worst leader on top of that. Talk about failing up.

Do paramount, tv land, comedy, mtv 3, etc have premieres?? Live events?? Programming that changes every 2 days? Why did Nickelodeon get stripped? Who is going to do all this work?

Sadly Chris is not even a “content” person as someone mentioned in the chain. He comes up with a bunch of metrics sound bites re viewership that don’t stand up to serious scrutiny.Bob seemed more than willing to eat that up and it was a small part of his downfall. All the value items Chris oversees — Sheridan and Matt/trey predate Chris. Who is the creator he has brought in — and no, bringing Jon back doesn’t count. Management was just entranced by his ability to do mba-speak, which is not how most actual creatives are naturally good at.

The mastermind behind bringing TRL back isn’t a good leader? Ya don’t say?

NO but good news is he is gone as soon as SD closes. He is a horrible leader. He is a content guy and should never he leading a business.

Probably not because the “creatives” are untouchable.
