Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Serious Question

Why does everyone show up stunned whenever they hear of Cisco layoffs? Layoffs are literally the first thing people think of when they hear of Cisco. And then if you make it through this round, you will show up again early next year clutching your pearls and pretending to be stunned when they announce the next round.

Not trying to be an a--hole here. I’m genuinely curious. When I worked at Cisco, I knew from day one that I would probably be laid off at some point.

Anyone that has been at Cisco just expects it and moves on regardless of the outcome. It's only the new people that freak out

It's California. The California government has destroyed the state, but it keeps getting votes. Cisco keeps laying people off, but they keep getting employees.

It's makes one wonder what happened to Californians' ability to observe and react.

Gary and Splunk people bring a familiar culture to Cisco post acquisition.

That’s the reason Gary is made GTM chief and the next possible Commander in chief. Chunky and Gary are best at grinding Cisco wheels to squeeze maximum value from employees, and make ELT richer (did I say Great Again?).

Splunk employee here. The Gary experience has gotten us ready for Cisco.

In 2023, we had two layoffs (4 percent and 7 percent). One of these was a month after the acquisition announcement. A lot of offshoring has taken place to make up for some of the gaps caused by the layoffs. There have also been some smaller, silent layoffs due to restructures.

Most people know what we’re getting into with Cisco. I don’t know anyone who’s excited about it. Our culture has taken a nosedive with Gary and the integration will be the nail in the coffin in what was once a pretty cool place to work.

Play the cr-p table any way you want, but know that 50% will be laid off by end of 2025 which means every other seat on your Zoom or WebEx meeting will be LR'd

I would be curious about the Splunk people. For now they are sheltered but I am sure the hunger games will start for them soon.
What is their perception after being acquired?
Were these quarterly or every two quarter layoffs something familiar to them ?

Some Cisco employees are used to it. They’ve learned that all the talk about “family” is bogus and as soon as they are done with you they toss you to the curb.

Then there are new hires whose first job is Cisco and they believe all the mush and find out the truth the hard way.

It's a good point, it's what they do. Of course few people every choose to work for Cisco - you end up working for them as part of an acquisition - then you realise the grim corporate truths about the company.
