When layoffs are not the option they downgrade you.
Are you good enough to be principal or senior? Oh, you've made a mistake here :) sorry, pal, you are sw 3 now. Have nice day.

Root causes of trouble are senior management (VPs, Directors, Sr. Managers, Directors), have no clue on what should be done. One day they dance at south, next few days after dance at north. Their decision depends on few directors, managers reporting to them. Obviously, managers who are mostly non-developer (out of touch with technology) push wrong information upword. Also need to down grade architects (who, except only few understands hacks only).
Put all the senior directors on 30 day PIPs and then fire them. They are just overhead.
I would start this by downgrading Sr. Directors .
In the end all of them are yesmen who just broadcast what VP said.
I wholeheartedly welcome this downgrade process as 95% of principals and senior couldn't develop their way out of a wet paper bag. A global cabal of worthless engineers being overpaid for a terrible product. Downgrade away!
F5 working environment is very toxic. Your future depends not how much you contributed, but how much to kept your manager and his manager and .. happy. It is all about saying "yes boss". There is no ethics, no honesty. Another criteria you need to be, you should be part of the same geo location as of you management.
I know. In our group bigip CentralManager , they've dowgraded architect to sr. Principal, and 1 sr. Principal was downgraded to principal. And some people were invited for private conversations. Its on going process.
It's called "quiet firing". They will make you quit if they don't want to pay you a severance package.
F5 does not do this.
I’ve never heard of that happening before.
