@tha+1tSUd36m "All Ford had to do was follow the Toyota business model which is reduce complexity and focus on quality."
You don't get it. That's boring! How do you expect a "progressive" like Bill Ford to talk about making money and good quality vehicles? Now, BEVs, that's the stuff! Bill Ford can talk at length in all the parties how he is challenging Elon Musk, and how fast he is going to beat Tesla. Not to mention how he is single-handedly saving the planet.
And now Bill Ford is cool too, like the CEOs of Silicon Valley, since he no longer has a vehicle manufacturing business, but a tech company, and vehicles are no longer about grease and soot, since we have the Software Defined Vehicles. The company is also cool because we have programmers, we make software using code, and use AI. We are not only challenging Tesla, but the whole Silicon Valley. So cool!
Well, the company is almost cool. We just have to get rid of the grease and soot part (ICE) to be completely a tech company. Too bad is the only money maker and the C-suite hasn't found a way of making BEVs profitable, but it doesn't matter how much money we lose with BEVs, that's just "cool". The "cool" factor is more important for a billionaire than money.
That's also why Bill Ford bought the Train Station. Is a conversation maker in all the parties. He is not only saving the planet, he is also saving Detroit. Of course, Bill is not using his money to save Detroit, but the FMC money, and the MI tax dollars. So he keeps his money, he is the saver of Detroit, and he is cool. A win-win-win for him!
But, but, but... how about all the Americans that have lost and will lose their jobs because of the awful business decisions of Bill Ford? Not to worry. Nobody talks about unpleasant facts like layoffs and financial struggles at Bill's parties. They don't care. And if something like that ever comes around, Bill Ford and his rich friends know that Big Government is there for welfare. That's why Bill Ford and his friends vote blue, right? Their consciences are clear, so they can enjoy life at its finest.
The only tiny detail is that you (@tha+1tSUd36m) and I, together with 30,000 more American workers, are not rich. So we don't get to enjoy those parties, we prefer making good quality products, we are not ashamed of working with grease and soot, and we cannot dictate the company's direction. We have to suffer in frustration or leave FMC, while the incompetent Bill Ford plays with the company and the income/future of thousands of families.
